Weekly Nest Notes: Mom and Dad in Waiting

Harriet and
M15 have almost exclusively been preparing their original nest to welcome Eggs
for Season 9. So far, it has been intriguing to see them choose another
location to build a nest and then change plans. It is not unusual for Eagles to
have an alternate nest in their territory. It seemed unnatural for Harriet to
be building Nest 2, especially since she has always had a strong affinity for
her original nest.

Harriet and
M15 spend more time near the nest tree and are becoming more protective and
watchful of the area. Harriet spends the days perching, preening and enjoying
a bath in the pasture pond. Harriet
makes her demands known as she approaches M15 with her “love tap” and he
obliges. M15 is an expert in all things Eagle. He is an excellent hunter and
provider, serving up great meals. M15 invests countless hours in his role of
devoted mate to Harriet, which is essential for their success.

Harriet and
M15 put more finishing touches on the nest and will soon have the task of
caring for Eggs and Eaglets. Harriet added a fresh sprig of pine and some moss
and grasses to ready the nest bowl. M15 shored up the perimeter with large sticks. The refurbishments have made the nest cozy
