Weekly Nest Notes: The Passage to Eagle Life

E17 and E18 have excelled in Eagle education over the months. They are still improving as they build upon their skills. Some dynamics changed over the week when they roosted away from the nest tree in a front pine overnight. The first few nights they perched together on a branch. The next nights, E18 objected to E17 being in the same space and pushed them away to roost alone on a branch under the nest. They tolerated each other at times and then scuffled and sparred at the pond and on the pasture snags. These behaviors point to separation and passage to life on their own as accomplished Juvenile Eagles.

E17 and E18 have become formidable forces with insight and courage. They scan the skies and territory looking for an opportunity for a meal. Harriet and M15 made themselves scarce except for a few food drops. E17 and E18 searched for them and looked for food in places other than the nest. M15 dropped prey in the West pasture, and Harriet snagged the Anhinga’s fish to leave at the pond bank. M15 delivered a fish head to the nest and seemed surprised that no hungry Juveniles were chasing him in and battling for it.

Harriet and M15 have experienced this juncture on their path many times over the years. E17 and E18 are well-prepared to take on life ready for many challenges ahead of them.
