SWFEC Nest Notes: Expanding All Over

E19 and E20 experience rapid growth of their tiny bodies that were about 3 ounces at hatch and are inching closer to Mom and Dad’s weight. They are standing, taking more steps, and gaining better balance and leg strength. Dark juvenile feathers emerge everywhere, especially on their beautifully growing wings that look like artists’ brushes. Cool and breezy weather prompts E19 and E20 to begin exercising and flapping their expanding wingspan.

Harriet and M15 make sure E19 and E20 are well-nourished, contributing to their tremendous growth. Mom and Dad deliver a steady supply of fish and prey, and E19 and E20 have not had an empty crop since they broke into the world. They practice self-feeding as they poke and pick at the meals left in the nest. E19 and E20 will soon have the strength and coordination to tear pieces off the food items. When they become more skilled at feeding themselves, food drops begin, and they will compete for their share of the catch.

Harriet and M15 are totally in tune, raising E19 and E20 and introducing them to Eagle life. E19 and E20 engage in instinctive behavior and learn skills to help them navigate the big world away from the nest. They are becoming more and more independent as Mom roosted overnight on the veranda branch with Dad above protecting his family. E19 and E20 are thriving and learning to live as incredible young Eagles under the impactful example of exceptional Eagle Parents.  Nest Notes by dadsjazz
