M15 and F23 seemed to take a more leisurely approach to nestorations over the week. They arrived early some days and a little later on other days. M15 and F23 sweep through the pasture to look for the specific item. They are both agile and acrobatic at grabbing sticks on the fly. They delivered materials, worked on placement, and disagreed over it. The days spent nest building include all these elements.
M15 presented F23 with two food gifts in the nest. She quickly claimed her prizes and flew to a nearby area to eat. In the past, she did the same and maybe is a bit skittish and still in stealing mode with her food. These actions show her possible uncertainty about this part of the pair bonding process. M15 displays patience in his reactions to F23. Time is allowing for instincts to engage and lessons to be learned for F23 as she grows into her role.
M15 and F23 are roosting away from the nest tree this season. A Great Horned Owl pair has been checking out the nest. Owls usually take another nest instead of building their own. Hopefully, M15 and F23 can deter the owls and direct them away from their nest. Last season, the owls raised a family in Nest 2 in the West pasture. A Juvenile Eagle looked comfortable perching in the nest tree one afternoon. Despite a few obstacles, M15 and F23 are on the right track to becoming a great team with procreation as their goal.
