M15 and F23 returned to the territory to show their commitment to a new season of building, bonding, and, hopefully, eggs and eaglets. They arrived early on the first official day of the 2024/2025 Nesting Season. They brought sticks and nesting and had serious discussions about the items. F23 has grown into her role as the nest master and firmly controls the nestorations. M15 usually agrees to her decisions and flies off to gather more materials. Their excellent building skills allowed the nest to survive the high winds and rain from the storms over the week.
M15 and F23 become more in sync as they work together. M15 brought the first fish gift of the season. F23 eagerly accepted it and, in her usual fashion, flew off to enjoy it on a nearby tree. Her reasons for not eating in the nest may be to deter intruders or to eat peacefully. She was very efficient when feeding E23 but took any leftovers away.
M15 and F23 will keep the territory secure. Great Horned Owls visited for a few nights to admire the sturdy nest. The secondary nest in the West pasture was used by owls last season and has since collapsed. Owls like to take over another’s nest, but M15 and F23 may have the last word on their homestead. All confidence goes to M15 and F23 to keep their beautiful nest and to fill it with new life. Nest Notes by dadsjazz.
