Thank you for the update, I hope the Pritchett’s are safe from harm.

Wishing the eagles to be unharmed. My heart aches for all of Florida.

So grateful to find this forum for an update.  Thank you so much, Essec.  My heart is broken for the loss of the nest but I just know H & M are safe and assessing where to rebuild. Trust the eagles….I’m doing my best to keep that in mind!

I have read comments that the eagles have an alternate nest nearby. Do we know that this is certain, or is this just speculation? If it is certain, does anybody know if that alternate nest survived the storm?

Thank you so much for posting this, thanks to those who are trying to keep us updated and many thanks to the people who have braved getting to the nest tree. I’m amazed the tree is standing and the pasture isn’t under water. It gives me hope for the safety of H&M and also for the Pritchetts and everyone in Fort Myers. Sending positive, healing energy to all for their safety and recovery.

Thank you Essec09.  I am hopeful that the ground report is accurate and that the nest tree is still standing.  I am hopeful that once the water recedes, H&M will be back.  Since they “print” the area, is that what it would take for them to come back, since it does not look the same currently?

KillianKitty, yes, there is another nest in the west pasture. The eagles have worked on it for a few years, but have always changed their mind and gone back to the original pasture nest. One season Great Horned Owls used what we have called Nest2. At this time we are not sure if Nest2 is still there (or even if the tree it is built on is). We will update as information is available.

Thank you for the updates, Essec09. This is heartbreaking but there’s still a chance they will rebuild in the same tree if it didn’t lose too many limbs. I hope the Pritchetts and the horses are managing well. It must have been terrifying. Thank you again for keeping us in the loop. Heart thingy.

HyperTyler, there wouldn’t be any issue as to the eagles not recognizing their territory.

Essec09 — thank you.  I wasn’t quite sure if they would recognize the area.  It seemed the pond was already quite high, even before the storm.  I am praying for the Pritchett family and all the Fort Myers peeps.  I can’t even imagine.

There is an update at the SW Florida Eagle Cam Facebook page with a photo of the nest tree.  I am unable to post the link.

“The nest tree is still standing but unfortunately the actual nest & cameras are no longer. Waiting for the Eagles to return and hopefully rebuild. We will update everyone when we know more.”
