Harriet and M15 keep up the exceptional care of their precious Eggs as they are about at the halfway point to hatching. Warmer temperatures show them diligently rolling and incubating the Eggs while enduring direct midday sun and heat in the process. Their intricate feather system allows for perfect regulation of their body temperatures and that of the Eggs. They step off the nest bowl from time to time, even flying off to the pond for a drink. They are always within eyeshot of the nest and can return in a second or two.
Harriet and M15 occupy their time on nest duty observing the activities around the pasture and in the skies above. They possibly look for each other and send out occasional vocals to make their presence and intentions known. They preen their feathers, move nesting material around and get up at regular intervals to tend to the nest bowl and the Eggs. They watch especially for any perceived threat to their territory. One luck duck tried to fly into the nest as Harriet was incubating. She immediately went into swift defense mode sending them on their way with a good wing-whacking.
Harriet and M15 carry on with their unconventional Season. They occasionally bring in nesting material but each finds meals on their free time. They switched up their routine when M15 took the incubating shift for a few of the night time hours while Harriet perched on the overhead branches. M15 was absent for longer periods during the day and Harriet had substantial breaks at other times. They are true to their path with devotion to their purpose that is evident in all their interactions. Nest Notes by dadsjazz.Header Photo SWFEC camera
