M15 and F23 devote all their attention to four-week-old E23 as they grow stronger by the minute. E23 preens constantly as thermal down feathers have replaced most of the natal down. Darker Juvenile feathers (contour and flight feathers) are bursting out all over. Studies have shown eaglets at four weeks are about six pounds with feet and beaks nearly adult size. Wings may span 22 inches, and little tails are about two inches long. Standing upright on their feet usually doesn’t happen until around six weeks. E23 stands, takes a few steps, is better at balance, and flaps growing wings.
M15 and F23 watch over E23 and keep the area secure. Many nights, M15 and F23 roost above E23 in the nest. They defended E23 from two intruders circling the nest tree by vocalizing warnings and sending them on their way. When it appears E23 is alone, Momma or Dad are near and readily available. E23 is aware of and tracks activity, including any danger.
M15 and F23 maintain mealtime menus with abundance and diversity. E23 has rarely been without a bulging crop. E23 tried standing on a fish F23 brought and got a few bites. At this rate, E23 will soon have the ability to self-feed. In these four weeks, E23 seems to have surpassed some of the milestones for their age.
