SWFEC Nest Notes: Eat, Sleep, Grow

image

Harriet and M15 seem to delight in the progress of their precious E19 and E20. So far, life has been mostly about eating, sleeping, and growing. E19 and E20 change in the blink of an eye as dark thermal down replaces the light fluff. Juvenile feathers begin to emerge on little wingtips.  E19 and E20 begin to discover and practice new innate behaviors and learn skills.

Harriet and M15 perch above E19 and E20 as they scamper freely around the nest, peek above and through the nest rails. E19 and E20 gain strength in sprouting wings flapping in the breezes, and legs are getting a workout as they “walk” on their hocks (tarsus, leg bones).  E19 and E20 are well aware of incoming food deliveries by Mom and Dad, and mealtimes are sometimes a challenge. E19 steps up to be fed first and compete for the food. E20 learns to lay low, then move around the perimeter to grab bites from Mom or Dad. E19 and E20 picked at a fish in the nest, getting a few nibbles to prepare for future self-feeding.

Harriet and M15 work in perfect harmony for the prosperity of their Family.  A storm drenched the area, E19 and E20 got their first good shower, and  “Mombrella” Harriet and Dad sprang to the rescue to protect them from any harm.  E19 and E20 are improving and gathering valuable knowledge from experienced and perceptive Eagle Parents.    Nest Notes by dadsjazz.
