Magnificent First Flight!- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for April 4

Courage and confidence allowed E4 to launch from a perch high in the nest tree and to perform a magnificent first flight around the pasture this morning. E4 turned 100 days old today and has been perfecting short flights to higher branches and back to the nest in the last few weeks. E4’s initial attempt to land in one of the dead pasture trees was unsuccessful and E4 tumbled to the ground. After surveying the new surroundings from the ground, E4 was successful in gaining lift to fly to a tree behind the church which is not in the pasture. E4 explored the new trees, rested in the shade and gained more strength and courage to fly back to the pasture trees.

Ozzie brought fish and a snack to the nest, Harriet joined him and they shared part of the meal. Harriet then took part of the fish to the pond tree and then to the pond and back to the nest to try to entice E4 back to the nest. E4 made a first attempt to return to the nest but was not able to find the correct approach. Harriet being the great Mom and teacher took a few sweeping flights around the pasture to show E4 the way back. E4 being the great student followed Mom’s lead and returned safely with a beautiful flight and landing on the attic branch and then to the nest. A snack was awaiting E4’s return which E4 devoured. E4 would soon be fast asleep after all the excitement and activities of the day. It was a wonderful day for Ozzie, Harriet and most of all for E4’s successful use of all the lessons learned in the continuing journey.
