New Lessons- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for April 12& 13

Ozzie and Harriet were off toward the river early Saturday morning. E4 was already being chased and bombarded by the birds. E4 took a beautiful sweeping flight around the pasture to the church tree. E4 then flew another long flight toward the west and settled in the far pasture tree line to escape the annoying birds. Harriet was spotted by a local resident perched off in the distance on a tall power pole from where she can still see the nest. E4 took more flights to explore and perched in all the favorite trees in the pasture. No substantial food was delivered other than a snack or two. E4 settled in the nest for the evening.

Sunday was a day filled with a lot of flights and new lessons. Ozzie lured E4 to the ground near the pond with a squirrel he brought. E4 has not been on the ground since the initial flight with a hard tumble to the ground upon landing. Ozzie’s plan worked like a charm since E4 was very hungry. E4 executed an aggressive mantle and steal from Ozzie and literally drove Ozzie away. Harriet also visited the ground where E4 was eating the prey but E4 protected the meal from her too. Ozzie delivered fish the the nest twice throughout the day. While he and Harriet ate the fish, E4 dashed back to the nest and performed the mantle and steal and drove Harriet away. E4 flew off after dinner then returned to the nest as the sun was setting to rest peacefully after a very busy day in a fully fledged juvenile Eagle’s life.
