E4 was off on a flying adventure tree hopping to most of the favorite trees in the morning. Ozzie dropped into the nest from the river with prey and Mom and E4 joined in the meal. Ozzie delivered a fish to the ground in the pasture as E4 flew to the tree above. When Harriet joined Ozzie, E4 finally glided to the ground and mantled the fish claiming a piece and flying off to the other side of the pasture. Mom and Dad were perched watching as E4 carried the fish by talon and by beak around the pasture. E4 stopped occasionally to eat and cautiously kept an eye the surroundings. Excellent lessons were being taught to E4 today who was a great student.
E4 had several more opportunities to mantle and steal food from Mom and Dad as the prey kept coming. E4 successfully took a squirrel away from Harriet only to have Harriet return to battle over the remaining piece with E4. The tug o’ squirrel lasted for a while and E4 put up a good fight but Mom got the last bite. Ozzie and Harriet are wonderful Eagle parents, teaching the critical survival skills E4 will need in a young Eagle’s life.
