A Perfect Pair: Nest Notes for Nov. 30- Dec. 6

Harriet and Ozzie are a well tuned Eagle pair. Their vocals can be heard before dawn most mornings. Harriet calls out to her devoted mate Ozzie who arrives at the nest promptly, eager to take his turn incubating. He uses tender movements to roll and place the eggs in their proper place then lowers himself with a perfect shimmy. Harriet spends most overnight hours incubating but Ozzie has been viewed on the nest taking the night shift a few times. They are each so focused on the care of their precious eggs that it is as if they must coax or nudge the other off the nest for a break.

Harriet and Ozzie each engaged in the ongoing additions bringing fluffy material and sticks to the nest. Ozzie’s hunting and fishing skills provided for Harriet’s needs throughout the week. Harriet and Ozzie each spent free time soaring the skies and surveying their territory. Harriet was spotted preening her beautiful feathers on her favorite snag tree one afternoon. The “Old Cam Tree” has seen better days and Harriet was taken by surprise when the branch she perched on gave way. She performed a quick recovery under the concerned and watchful eyes of Ozzie, flying off to one of the more sturdy perch trees in the pasture.

Ozzie’s evening bath in the pond was a great sight to see since he seems to prefer more quiet and privacy. Harriet enjoyed and shared her bath time with the horses and a great white egret that frequent the pond. Ozzie and Harriet had a special moment of mating to further reaffirm their bond to each other and their soon to be eaglets.
