Incubating & Waiting- Nest Notes for Dec 7-13

Cooler and crisper weather seemed to suit Harriet and Ozzie well this week. There were beautiful sunrises, stunning sunsets, lovely flights around the nest territory and a lot of activity in between. Perfectly timed flights into and away from the nest continued as Harriet and Ozzie tirelessly incubate their precious eggs. The time is drawing near for the rewards of their labor of love. Harriet assumes the majority of time on the nest incubating but Ozzie is always willing and eager to share in the duties. He has been diligent in providing prey for Harriet’s meals. His deliveries will begin to increase as the time for hatching gets closer.

Harriet and Ozzie’s protective instincts are in full force as they each keep a watchful eye to the happenings in their domain. They share their environment with many little birds which seem to serenade them as they lay incubating. There was a visit by a pileated woodpecker to the nest that may help keep the pesky bugs at bay. Little birds who pose no threat are well tolerated. Larger birds swooped in close to the nest tree on several occasions causing Harriet and Ozzie to spring to full attention, flying off to drive the intruders away.

Harriet and Ozzie have both enjoyed the freedom of soaring high above the nest area. They vocalized and greeted each other as they arrived on the nest to take their turn tending to their eggs. Their bond is strengthened as they shared tender moments together. They remain exceptionally close and committed preparing for the events that are coming soon.
