Springing Into Spring- Weekly Nest Notes

E7 and E8 are relishing in the strong breezes as they flap away and spring into fly hops across the nest. The benefit will be strong wings to prepare them for branching and eventual flight. Spring rains gave them a well needed shower dousing them, the nest and Mom and Dad.

E7 and E8 have become voracious eaters as they bombard Mom or Dad landing on the nest with or without food. Harriet and M15 have stepped up their food deliveries and at times have just dropped off their catch and flown off. They seem to observe and let E7 and E8 practice self feeding. E7 and E8 work on agility using their talons to hold on to the prey while getting stronger at tearing pieces to eat. Both have begun to display a mantle which is outstretched wings that helps them claim and protect the food. E8 has learned to be more aggressive but still retreats at times as E7 advances. The battles in the tug-o–prey helps each develop stealing skills. E8 is quick to grab bites that are too large at times and enjoys the steal and swallowing of the fish tails. There have also been days of scarce food deliveries showing that food is not always available in the wild.

Some mornings and evenings found Harriet and M15 perched together on the old cam tree seeming to have a sense of pride as they watch their thriving offspring. They may be teaching E7 and E8 to be more independent as they leave them for longer periods. E7 and E8 have their Eagle Eyes set on all that goes on in the territory just as Mom and Dad do. Valuable skills and abilities are becoming apparent as E7 and E8 follow the lead of Mom and Dad. Harriet and M15 have been amazing in the nurturing of E7 and E8 in their continuing journey to becoming magnificent Eagles. Nest Notes by dadsjazz
