Weekly Nest Notes: Life as a Family of 4

Harriet and M15 welcomed their precious Eaglets, E12 and E13 last week and all are adjusting nicely as an Eagle Family. E12 and E13 are active and healthy Eaglets and are quickly making their presence known in the family dynamics. These feisty baby raptors are evenly matched as they battle for first in line at feeding time. Their sparring matches are short lived as each gets their share at the frequent mealtimes.

Mom and Dad have each delivered their catches of the day and the food stockpile is abundant. With well-filled crops E12 and E13 drop off to sleep, growing by leaps and bounds under the exceptional care of dedicated Mom and Dad. E12 and E13 are strong and inquisitive nestmates. By their first week, they were already climbing out of the barely existent nest bowl, scooting to the nest rails and napping in the warm sun with a stick for a pillow. Mom and Dad fly in and out of the nest and allow their charges the freedom to roam under their watchful eyes.

Both E’s have learned to seek out the shade Mom and Dad provide on the hot humid days and to find the warmth underneath for cooler time. The nest is E12 and E13’s world to explore for now and in the blink of an eye, they will be peering over the nest rails as all observing gasp. Harriet and M15 protect and defend their E12, E13 and their territory from any threats. Their nest is a no-fly zone and Harriet escorted a sub-adult eagle from the area.  M15 is always on guard and chased a night intruder from the nest tree.  This Family of Four is secure as they continue their journey of growth and adventure.
