E15 and E16 are turning 6 weeks old and have come a very long way in a short time. They experienced rapid growth over the first month and are now building strength and coordination. They are becoming beauties with sparkling eyes and dark Juvenile feathers sprouting all over. E16 is catching up nicely to older sibling E15. They started with baby steps and are now standing upright and walking more. Their wings are impressive and sprawling as they flap away in the breezes. They courageously teeter on the rails watching life outside of the nest.
Harriet and M15 deliver an interesting variety of prey to the nest and introduce the E15 and E16 to the many possibilities. M15 brought a huge rabbit to the pasture and Harriet helped get it to the nest. E15 and E16 observe the preparations and processes of de-furring or de-feathering. They practiced holding and pulling at the stuffed animal in the nest. E16 is a master of stealing bites and getting a good share of the meal. Soon they will be self-feeding as they begin to rush in and grab pieces for themselves. This will save Mom and Dad’s toes and beaks from getting in the way of E15 and E16 at feeding time.
Harriet and M15 manage to have a few moments together to keep their bond strong. They visited the pond and perched overnight together in the nest tree. This is usually the time of year for them to relax and re-energize. Harriet and M15 have extended their season giving all to raise these energetic young raptors.
