Weekly Nest Notes: Comfort and Joy

Harriet and M15 began the Holiday Season by welcoming their precious Eggs. They will spend the next weeks tending to and gently turning them every so often to keep them evenly incubated. The weather turned cooler and prompted Harriet and M15 to add more soft grasses and nesting for comfort and warmth. They both appear to perform nest duties with contentment and joy.

Harriet and M15 have their exchanges perfectly timed. When one arrives, the other leaves, sometimes stopping for a quick greeting. M15 is always eager to take Harriet’s place to give her time to perch, stretch and preen, soar the skies, and have a nice bath in the pond. They while away countless hours watching the vultures and other birds fly through the area and make sure they keep their distance. Harriet obliges M15’s insistence on incubating during night hours. She lets him stay for a short time since she is usually on the nest overnight with M15 perching close by watching over his Family.  The pesky owl buzzes by the nest tree from time to time, causing alert vocals. It is a sensitive time, and the protection of their treasured Eggs is essential.

Harriet and M15 have been eating their meals away from the nest tree. They do not want to attract unwelcome visitors to the area. When the hatching time draws closer, M15 will deliver food items to the nest to feed hungry Eaglets. In the meantime, Harriet and M15 unselfishly give all their attention to the care of their valuable additions.   Nest Notes by dadsjazz
