Weekly Nest Notes: Feeling the Freedom of Flight

E17 and E18 are just over 12 weeks old and are ready to proceed to the next stage as all the boxes in their development are checked. E17 is officially a Fledgling, taking their maiden flight to the nearby pine tree with purpose and a perfect landing. E17 has since executed beautiful fights around the pasture, explored new trees, and visited most of the branches in the nest tree. E18 worked up and out to the porch and took a beautiful leap to the attic branch. They both perched a while and enjoyed the new vantage point.  E18 observes older sibling relishing in their excursions and will soon feel the freedom of flight.

Harriet and M15 are away from the nest tree during most of the day hours. They make occasional stops to check on and drop food for E17 and E18. As night falls, Mom and Dad usually return to the nest tree. Much to their surprise, E17 hopped close to them on the attic branch and stayed the night. The next evening Harriet and M15 roosted in the front pine. E18 perched for a time on the porch branch and returned to the nest for a restful sleep. Harriet and M15 encourage independence in their grown babies while keeping their security a priority.

E17 and soon E18 will be discovering new and exciting perches and places in the pasture and beyond. They have a heightened sense of awareness and are eager for adventure. Mom and Dad take Eagle education to new levels as the lessons become finely tuned and E17 and E18 sharpen their skills. The coming weeks will present fresh and engaging experiences in the lives of clever inquisitive young raptors.  Nest Notes by dadsjazz
