SWFEC Nest Notes: Welcome New Arrival- Egg #1

Harriet and M15 welcomed their new arrival for the Season, Egg #1, laid on November 20, 2021. The joy of seeing the first Egg seems so fresh and exciting every time. Mom’s tenderness and Dad’s eagerness to do his part are endearing. Harriet usually lays two Eggs with a span between egg-laying of about three days. Everything happens in Harriet’s time as she makes the decision.

Harriet and M15 spring into Egg-tending mode with breaks in between as they practice delayed incubation. The warmer climate allows them time off the Egg and nest, but nearby. When Harriet lays more eggs, they will settle into a complete incubation routine. Harriet spends most of the overnight hours on the nest with M15 perched above guarding his family. As the morning dawns, M15 faithfully arrives to take his turn on the nest to give Mom a well-deserved break. They share all the parental roles, take care of their charges, themselves, and each other.

Harriet and M15 dedicate their lives to continue their species, and they are off to a promising start. M15 is an avid hunter and provider bringing food gifts to Harriet. He continues to work on the nest and fulfills all of Harriet’s needs and desires. She, in turn, presents him with their precious Eggs as they make all efforts to achieve their purpose.   Nest Notes by dadsjazz
