Harriet and M15 welcomed their new arrival for the Season, Egg #1, laid on November 20, 2021. The joy of seeing the first Egg seems so fresh and exciting every time. Mom’s tenderness and Dad’s eagerness to do his part are endearing. Harriet usually lays two Eggs with a span between egg-laying of about three days. SWFEC Nest Notes: Eagle Parents in Waiting

Harriet and M15 are inching closer to welcoming Eggs and Eaglets. Their nest appears well-constructed and sturdy as they continue to reinforce areas around the perimeter. The center is piled with soft moss and grass to make a comfy cozy bed. It is endearing to see M15 often lying in the nest bole to test it out. SWFEC Nest Notes: Getting It All Just Right

Harriet and M15’s work progresses and seems never finished. They search for the perfect materials to add to the nest and have “discussions” about placing them. At times, Harriet looks like she wants some alone time in the nest to add her touches, but M15 is always eager to help and jumps right in. SWFEC Nest Notes: Precious Cargo, Arriving Soon

Harriet and M15 are making steady progress and are exhibiting their readiness for coming events now that November is here. Typically Harriet lays eggs toward the middle to the end of the month. Harriet and M15 are equipping the nest with all the elements to protect the precious cargo arriving soon. Harriet and M15 added a lot of nest materials over the week. The “crib” rails look like a fortress, and the interior is becoming more cushioned with soft grasses. SWFEC Nest Notes: Fitting the Pieces Together

Harriet and M15 continue to contribute all the necessary components for their masterpiece. Each delivered huge branches, fresh pine sprigs, sticks, and grasses. Construction of this nest began in the fall of 2016 after the previous nest collapsed. Each year the nest gets a renovation from the wear and tear of rambunctious Eaglets and the elements. The nest also sustains an environment for the Starlings who steal materials to build their nests below it. SWFEC Nest Notes: Preparing the Homestead

Harriet and M15 ramped up nest refurbishing through the week as they ready the homestead for coming events. They search near and far for all the proper materials for the nest. They wrangle with the big sticks brought in to sturdy up the perimeter rails. Harriet arrives with her favorite pine boughs to decorate the nest. Grass and moss got added to the nicely forming nest center where M15 shimmies down to test the depth and softness. SWFEC Nest Notes: Into The Swing of The Season

Harriet and M15 exchange vocals and greet the sunrise. They survey the area and begin their work by adding materials and sticks to prepare the nest. Harriet and M15 reestablish their bond by perching and roosting together and engaging in mating behaviors. They spend the early mornings and the evenings together and fly off in the warm afternoons to a shady perch place. SWFEC Nesting Season2021 Kickoff

Harriet and M15 kicked off the first day of Nesting Season with a flurry of nest work. They made appearances in the area over the last few months to check the condition of the nest and take inventory of what is needed. They both delivered sticks and materials and squabbled over the placement of the items. Harriet added fresh pine sprigs and even brought a flopping fish for dinner in the nest.
