Baby Steps- Nest Notes for Feb 23-March 1

E6 throws caution to the wind mastering skills learned in these seemingly short 9 weeks. E6’s courage strengthens along with wings, legs and grasping abilities. E6’s is looking more and more grown up exercising beautiful wings in the breezes and fly hopping across the nest jumping higher and higher. Harriet and Ozzie are keenly aware of E6’s activities and have been bringing more and thicker sticks to the nest. E6 seems to be encouraged to take steps up on to those “rails”. E6 has been teetering on the edges more… Read More »Baby Steps- Nest Notes for Feb 23-March 1

Preparation and Anticipation: Nest Notes for the Week of Nov. 8-15

Harriet and Ozzie’s work is never done as they prepare for their offspring. There is still much to do before the eggs are laid. Ozzie’s focus has been constant and tireless perfecting the home for his family. His excellent skills have produced a safe and soft place for Harriet as the time approaches for her to lay eggs. It seems that there are never enough sticks for the outer rails of the nest and Ozzie continues to build, build, and build. The “strep up” branch is almost covered by all… Read More »Preparation and Anticipation: Nest Notes for the Week of Nov. 8-15

Mother’s Day Tribute to Harriet- Nest Notes, Photos & Video for May 11

Harriet and Ozzie were perched in the cam 2 tree at first light. Harriet proceeded to the nest to survey the sizes and shapes of branches she would search out for nest rebuilding. A Mother’s work is never done. She takes care of the homestead, protects and teaches her young and selflessly sees them off on their own journey. She is a dedicate partner to her mate, Ozzie, who responds with committed dedication to her and their young. Harriet and Ozzie end the months of caring for their offspring as… Read More »Mother’s Day Tribute to Harriet- Nest Notes, Photos & Video for May 11

E4’s Air and Water Maneuvers- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for April 25

Flights and soaring above the Family’s territory are the part of E4’s daily activities. All the birds in the pasture are also busy protecting their young as they dive at and chase E4 from tree to tree. E4 was seen performing evasive and acrobatic maneuvers while being chased by the crows today. Ozzie and Harriet were off to their favorite perches in the territory in the afternoon. As the day was heating up, E4 joined Ozzie and the horses at the pond. It looked like “Last one in is …”… Read More »E4’s Air and Water Maneuvers- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for April 25

Leaps and Bounds- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for March 5

E4 is not only growing by leaps and bounds but is also performing leaps and bounds in the nest. E4 is becoming more agile and coordinated with fly hopping from one side of the nest to the other. Prey was delivered by Dad and Mom in the morning. Meal deliveries are often a mystery and come wrapped in packages at times. Maybe the lesson for E4 is to learn that food comes in many different varieties. Dad and E4 ate together side by side in the nest. E4 is looking… Read More »Leaps and Bounds- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for March 5

Sticks & More Sticks- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for Feb 27

The nest was looking more like an obstacle course as Harriet continued bringing large branches to the nest and Ozzie arrived to help her place them. Having Mom, Dad and E4 on the nest seemed a bit crowded. E4 is learning to navigate around all the things in the nest. E4 managed to fly hop across the nest getting good air under beautifully growing wings. E4 rearranged sticks, carried fish around the nest and had several good self feedings. Mom and Dad still help E4 at meal time.  E4 spent… Read More »Sticks & More Sticks- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for Feb 27

And Then There was Food! – Nest Notes, Photos & Video for Jan 20

The food deliveries were plentiful and quiet a variety on this busy Monday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included feathers, fur and a few fish dishes. E3 and E4 were learning the valuable lesson that food comes in all sizes and shapes. E4 is getting better at snatching good bites and staying out of E3’s way when the food arrives on the nest. At one point E4 was pecking away at a fish while E3 was sitting on it.  Harriet and Ozzie both delivered their catches throughout day for their hungry… Read More »And Then There was Food! – Nest Notes, Photos & Video for Jan 20

Wings & Things: Nest Notes, Videos & Photos for Jan. 5

Warmer drier weather arrived overnight and Mom gave the sweet little E’s an early breakfast. Their hunger and need to be fed is growing along with them. Ozzie delivered what looked to be a wing from another bird which may have been from a road kill. We have observed many types of food brought to the nest, some recognizable and some not. There’s not much that is edible being wasted in their territory and the sweet little E’s get a nice variety of meals. Their wrestling matches at meal time… Read More »Wings & Things: Nest Notes, Videos & Photos for Jan. 5
