E4 began the day doing the things curious and growing eaglets do. Careful observance of Mom and Dad teaches E4 to move some sticks and grasses, look for “nestovers” and work on self feeding. Wing exercising, stretching and standing are improving as E4 gains more strength and balance. E4’s day was mostly peaceful and serene. E4 is very alert tracking Mom and Dad’s food deliveries and rushing in for a grab at the meal. E4 was greeted by the dawning of a new day and Mom’s early morning delivery of a small fish to the nest. E4 has been practicing the many skills needed to survive and grow into a beautiful adult Eagle. E4 spent the next part of the morning attempting to self feed, trying to coordinate standing on the fish and pulling it apart to get a few bites. Ozzie was the great fisherman today. He began the morning with a fresh catch delivery to hungry and waiting E4. Harriet soon arrived to finish the feeding. Mom seems to love her time feeding E4. There were lots of flights to and from the nest tree by Ozzie and Harriet that E4 watched and tracked with keen Eaglet eyes. Mom stepped to the nest early this morning and fed some “nestovers” to E4. The chores for the day began. Ozzie and Harriet brought sticks and branches of fresh pine and pine cones maybe to fill the nest with good aromas after all the unusual food items found there today. Harriet was off to hunt early in the morning. Fresh fish was the order of the day. Harriet delivered several fish and Ozzie successfully brought more fish and prey to add to the well stocked pantry. E3 got most of the initial feedings but eager and determined E4 got a hearty share of the meals too. Mom and Dad worked tirelessly hunting and feeding the hungry E’s. The food deliveries were plentiful and quiet a variety on this busy Monday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included feathers, fur and a few fish dishes. E3 and E4 were learning the valuable lesson that food comes in all sizes and shapes. E4 is getting better at snatching good bites and staying out of E3’s way when the food arrives on the nest. In the early morning hours Harriet and Ozzie were perched in the upper branches of the nest tree vocalizing and watching over their sleeping baby E’s. Mom arrived for breakfast feeding and was eagerly greeted by the hungry E’s with their peep, peep, peeping. E4 is becoming skilled at grabbing a share of the meals by learning when to make its move. Snuggle for Warmth! Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for Jan 3
The overnight hours were cooler and rainy. Mom and Dad took turns keeping the sweet little Es dry and warm. Although Mom usually spends the night time hours brooding the E’s, Dad took his turn to give Harriet a chance to dry off her wings. Mom and Dad continued the fish deliveries and the E’s were well fed. E3 and E4’s usual sparring gave way to snuggling together for warmth in the cool daytime hours.
