Weekly Nest Notes: Decisions, Decisions

Harriet and M15 started and ended their days at the original nest. They aerated, moved and added some sticks and nesting. M15 lay in the nest bowl and kicked out the material with his feet. M15 follows Harriet’s lead as she insists on building Nest 2 in the West pasture snag tree.  He is always watching for Harriet and catering to her wishes. He delivered food gifts to Harriet in the original nest and Nest 2, since he was observed removing a pelt from there. Harriet and M15 are in… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes:

Weekly Nest Notes: The Path Forward

Harriet and M15 begin each Nesting Season with new challenges to navigate. They solidify their bond to each other and prepare to raise a new family. One major difference this year has been the presence of E15, their offspring from last Season. Harriet and M15’s  instincts to care for their young were intermixed with their desire to move toward their goal.  E15 was last seen in the area on November 2, 2020, and may have embarked on a path forward to explore life away from the comforts of home. Harriet… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: The Path Forward

Weekly Nest Notes: Harriet’s Choice

Harriet and M15 continue building a secondary nest in the West pasture. Harriet seems to be on a mission and has been bringing more than her share of sticks and materials for Nest 2. It is not unusual for Eagles to build alternate nests in their territory for various reasons. Relocating may have been spurred by E15, now a little over 7 months old, staying in the area. The time for laying Eggs is approaching, and Harriet remains focused on readying a nest for the event. Harriet will make the… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Harriet’s Choice

Weekly Nest Notes: The Dynamic Eagle Family

Harriet, M15, and E15 are involved in an intriguing family dynamic as the Nesting Season progresses. E15 remains in the area, appears to have staked a claim of the nest, and shows no signs of leaving.  E15 interferes with any efforts to refurbish the nest by treating a stick delivery as food and rushing in. Harriet has been extremely protective of her prized nest and tree over the years. Harriet and M15 rebuilt this nest from scratch when the original collapsed in 2016. So far, they have not deterred or… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes:

Weekly Nest Notes: A Tale of Two Seasons

Harriet and M15 are still in “Mom and Dad” mode as they continue to provide for E15, their offspring from last Season. The Nesting Seasons have become blended in a twist of events that included the tragic loss of precious E14 and un-hatched Egg 2. Harriet and M15 were determined to not give up on their desire to procreate. To all amazement, they restarted the nesting process and presented E15 and E16 to the world.  Harriet and M15 expended their energy raising E15 and E16 well into their normal down-time.… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: A Tale of Two Seasons

Weekly Nest Notes: Comforts of Home- Oct. 12

E15 remains in the area and is enjoying all the comforts of home. E15 explores areas of the territory but doesn’t venture far just in case there is an opportunity to get a meal. M15 and even Harriet presented food and E15 took them up on their offerings. Surprisingly, Mom and Dad are feeding their capable Juvenile Eagle. E15 did manage to “hunt” a few items including a frog on his/her own. E15 is in no hurry to leave the area and may stay as long as food is easy… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Comforts of Home- Oct. 12

Weekly Nest Notes: A Season of Surprises

Harriet and M15 traditionally are just returning from their Summer break after a Season of raising their offspring. They reunite, renew their bond, and begin the process of working on their nest for the upcoming nesting Season. The 2019/2020 Nesting Season has been extended and has been one of twists and turns. Harriet and M15 withstood many tests that come with Eagle life and faced adversity with courage and resilience. They dealt with the sudden loss of their priceless Eaglet E14 and nonviable Egg 2 with determination to continue their… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: A Season of Surprises

Weekly Nest Notes: Soaring to New Horizons

E15 and E16 grew more independent over the week preparing for the journey ahead. They sought out new sights soaring far and high on the thermals and sailing through the clouds. Although they have become less tolerant of each other, they spent the morning perched on the pylons at the pond. They took in the sights and swooped the ducks. A while later E16 flew to the nest tree for possibly one last look. E16 took off on a long winding flight around the territory eventually disappearing into the Southeast… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Soaring to New Horizons

Weekly Nest Notes: Time to Discover the World

E15 and E16 are nearing the time for them to each make their way to discover the world. They have keen instincts and are well schooled in ways of Eagle life. They have been engaging and sharpening skills over the weeks and seem ready for new experiences.  They keep a close watch for Harriet and M15 and an eye on each other just in case a meal is brought in. They have learned that Eagles and other birds may lead them to prey where they will have to use their… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Time to Discover the World

Weekly Nest Notes: Rough and Tumble Raptors

E15 and E16 remain in the area practicing and perfecting their skills. They tweak their flying abilities adding twists and turns sometimes missing a landing. They proceed with a good recovery to fly off to another branch or tree. They made their presence known in the pasture swooping around the pond chasing away the birds and ducks gathered there. Soaring the skies above the territory takes them farther to seek out new and interesting adventures.  E15 and E16 are coming into their own as each spends overnight hours and time… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Rough and Tumble Raptors
