Weekly Nest Notes: Comfort and Joy

Harriet and M15 began the Holiday Season by welcoming their precious Eggs. They will spend the next weeks tending to and gently turning them every so often to keep them evenly incubated. The weather turned cooler and prompted Harriet and M15 to add more soft grasses and nesting for comfort and warmth. They both appear to perform nest duties with contentment and joy. Harriet and M15 have their exchanges perfectly timed. When one arrives, the other leaves, sometimes stopping for a quick greeting. M15 is always eager to take Harriet’s… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Comfort and Joy

Weekly Nest Notes: Welcome Special Deliveries!

Harriet and M15 focused on their original nest after building an alternate nest in a West pasture snag tree. They seemed to have a sense of urgency to get the “nestorations” complete in anticipation of eggs.  M15 brought in talons full of soft grasses for the nest bowl and reinforced the nest rails. Harriet adorned the nest with a fresh pine bough and an air plant. They put the finishing touches on the nest just in time to welcome their special deliveries, Egg 1 and Egg 2. Harriet and M15… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Welcome Special Deliveries!

Weekly Nest Notes: “Egg-citing” Times Coming

Harriet and M15 have accomplished many of the preparation for their soon to be family. They chose their original nest and began bringing in sticks and nesting materials. M15 showered Harriet with a wide variety of food gifts. They continued their courtship and engaged in mating often. Harriet depends on M15’s loyalty, and he has proven his dedication to her.  All signs point to Eggs and Eaglets, but the process is in Harriet’s control. Weekly Nest Notes: Mom and Dad in Waiting

Harriet and M15 have almost exclusively been preparing their original nest to welcome Eggs for Season 9. So far, it has been intriguing to see them choose another location to build a nest and then change plans. It is not unusual for Eagles to have an alternate nest in their territory. It seemed unnatural for Harriet to be building Nest 2, especially since she has always had a strong affinity for her original nest. Harriet and M15 spend more time near the nest tree and are becoming more protective and… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Mom and Dad in Waiting

Weekly Nest Notes: Anticipating Coming Events

Harriet and M15 concentrated their efforts on their original nest over the week. It seems as if they have chosen it to keep as the home for their new family. M15 worked at record speed bringing in sticks for the rails and soft material for the bowl. He tests out the nest bowl regularly and adjusts the amount of fluff needed. Harriet perched on the attic branch, gave orders, and dropped into the nest to add her touches. Their frequent bonding is a sure sign that Eggs are on the… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Anticipating Coming Events

Weekly Nest Notes: Double Duty Teamwork

Harriet and M15 have been on a steady pace constructing a secondary nest. Over the seasons, Harriet has taken sticks to a tree in the West pasture. This Season, she added a substantial amount there, and a proper nest began to take shape. Since the Female Eagle rules the roost, M15 joined her in the Nest 2 project. Harriet’s interests now seem to be on the original nest prompting M15 to turn his sights there. Harriet enjoyed fish and opossum meals she brought to the nest and also the gifted… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: Double Duty Teamwork

Weekly Nest Notes: Decisions, Decisions

Harriet and M15 started and ended their days at the original nest. They aerated, moved and added some sticks and nesting. M15 lay in the nest bowl and kicked out the material with his feet. M15 follows Harriet’s lead as she insists on building Nest 2 in the West pasture snag tree.  He is always watching for Harriet and catering to her wishes. He delivered food gifts to Harriet in the original nest and Nest 2, since he was observed removing a pelt from there. Harriet and M15 are in… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes:

Weekly Nest Notes: The Path Forward

Harriet and M15 begin each Nesting Season with new challenges to navigate. They solidify their bond to each other and prepare to raise a new family. One major difference this year has been the presence of E15, their offspring from last Season. Harriet and M15’s  instincts to care for their young were intermixed with their desire to move toward their goal.  E15 was last seen in the area on November 2, 2020, and may have embarked on a path forward to explore life away from the comforts of home. Harriet… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes: The Path Forward

Weekly Nest Notes: The Dynamic Eagle Family

Harriet, M15, and E15 are involved in an intriguing family dynamic as the Nesting Season progresses. E15 remains in the area, appears to have staked a claim of the nest, and shows no signs of leaving.  E15 interferes with any efforts to refurbish the nest by treating a stick delivery as food and rushing in. Harriet has been extremely protective of her prized nest and tree over the years. Harriet and M15 rebuilt this nest from scratch when the original collapsed in 2016. So far, they have not deterred or… Read More »Weekly Nest Notes:
