Harriet and M15 add the finishing touches to the nest with soft grasses and moss for their eggs and with many strong sticks for rails to secure hatchlings. M15 has become the master nest builder finding the perfect nest materials and air plant gifts for Harriet. SWFEC Daily Summary Monday, January 13, 2014 Nest Mates The warmer weather and the E’s coat of thermal down gives Mom and Dad a break from brooding E3 and E4. The E’s are better able to regulate their body temperatures now. They snuggle together in the overnight and early morning hours while Mom or Dad keep watch nest side or above the nest on the “attic” branch. The Big Little Eaglets- Nest Notes for Jan. 9

The term “growing by leaps and bounds” gets a new meaning regarding the Little E’s. They are eating very well and growing right before our eyes. They are beginning to get their thermal down and their large feet are starting to look funny in comparison to their bodies.  Ozzie and Harriet brought fish and prey to the nest for the numerous feedings of the E’s. Warmer drier weather arrived overnight and Mom gave the sweet little E’s an early breakfast. Their hunger and need to be fed is growing along with them. Ozzie delivered what looked to be a wing from another bird which may have been from a road kill. We have observed many types of food brought to the nest, some recognizable and some not. There’s not much that is edible being wasted in their territory and the sweet little E’s get a nice variety of meals. Soggy Little E’s- Nest Notes, Photos & Videos for Jan. 4

The cool rains continued today. Ozzie and Harriet did their best to keep the little E’s from the elements. Eagle instincts may have given them the clue that the weather may be turning cooler still. Ozzie brought grasses in to shore up the nest bowl since the strong and growing E’s have been in and out causing the bowl to somewhat flatten.  SWFEC Daily Summary Friday, December 27, 2013 Family Ties Dad, Ozzie and Mom, Harriet with new eaglets, E3 and E4 are settling into daily family life on the nest. Welcome to the World – Nest Summary for Dec. 23

Today was day 36 since Harriet laid her first egg. Harriet had been on nest duty for approximately 41 hours with small breaks in between. Did she know the big event of her baby eaglet was preparing to break into the world? Ozzie arrived on the nest in the morning and then again in the afternoon to give Harriet much need relief from her marathon of incubating. A Visitor Watching- Nest Activity & Videos for Dec 22

Harriet patiently and unselfishly tends to her precious eggs as the hatch time for the first egg laid is approaching. She has been on nest duty since late afternoon yesterday. Ozzie is standing by to support Harriet but she keeps to tending. Their devotion to each other and to their young is amazing. Waiting and Watching- Nest Activity for Nov 20

The days are quickly approaching for Ozzie and Harriet’s baby eggs to begin hatching. Today was a quiet day at the nest that began with Ozzie taking over incubation duties early in the morning. Ozzie became restless looking for Harriet who returned around noon time.  Ozzie arrived on the nest close to sunset to give Harriet a break. She took advantage of the time off then quietly returned to the nest at 11:09 pm.
