Trusting in Nature- Nest Notes for March 29-April 5

Eagle Life for Harriet and E6 has taken an interesting direction since Ozzie’s accident and stay in the wildlife clinic, C.R.O.W. The first week was filled with tense moments as several juvenile, sub adult and adult Eagles frequented the nest territory. E6 was entering the critical time of preparing for the initial flight from the nest tree. Harriet seemed visibly confused by the perceived loss of her mate but driven by her instinct to feed and protect E6. Harriet seemed to allow herself a few days to accept and adjust… Read More »Trusting in Nature- Nest Notes for March 29-April 5

First Flight & Freedom- Nest Notes for March 22-29

E6’s quest for the freedom of flight began this week with a strong takeoff from the nest tree, purposeful first trip around the front pasture and graceful landing in a nearby slash pine tree. A Turn of Events – Nest Notes for March 15-22

E6 is 12 weeks old and the adventurous spirit becomes more apparent as new perches in the nest tree are reached. The “spike” and the “porch” branch just off the nest were some of the favorite places E6 fly hopped to with the greatest of ease. E6 ascended to the higher “attic” branch above the nest like a pro who had done so many times. E6 managed to climb and fly hop to farther branches and was able to take a short flights back to the nest. E6 has done… Read More »A Turn of Events – Nest Notes for March 15-22

Word of the Week: Wingersizing! Nest Notes for Feb. 15-22

E6 took full advantage of the windy and cooler weather conditions last week. The gusting breezes encouraged E6 to outstretch beautifully growing wings to flap, flap, flap and fly hop around the nest. E6’s wingspan is nearly reaching the edges of the nest which is about 6 feet across. E6 even managed to gain a bit of lift off in the cool wind. These activities will build strength in wing and leg muscles for the next stage of development. Showing Personality- Nest Notes for Feb. 2-8

It has been a very active week 6 for E6, Harriet and Ozzie. Harriet was in a green mood as she added several branches of fresh pine needles and pinecones to the nest. E6 found a lot of self entertainment picking up and moving sticks and pinecone tossing. E6’s inquisitive gestures and ever changing features are comical at times. Fish were the catches of the week and many were devoured by E6. One such still flopping fish was eager to leave the nest and soared overboard. Ozzie retrieved it and… Read More »Showing Personality- Nest Notes for Feb. 2-8
